Here's the deal. if you are one of the army of Mark Skaife fans interested in being the first on your block to secure a first-off copy of his comprehensively illustrated history book, you'll need to get yourself to Mount Panorama for the running of the Bathurst 1000.

Limited numbers are being printed for sale at the track where Skaife triumphed no fewer than five times. Further copies will become available in major bookstores from late October.

Retailing at $65, the 210-page coffee table collector edition, called "Mark Skaife...The Racing Years" is the first pictorial collection of Skaife's racing deeds covering his heralded race career including his early days of the one-make Ford Lasers in 1986, the technically brilliant Nissan GT-Rs of the early 1990s, and the factory Holdens of the last decade.

With lots of pictures, it's sure to appeal to the V8 racing fraternity gathered at the Mountain for the October 11 two-make enduro.

Skaife has broken his retirement, Melba and Farnham style, to join fellow multiple winner Greg Murphy at Sprint Gas Racing for a shot at victory number six.
