Geneva reveal for Fresh faced Corolla hatch as the popular Toyota pushes to remain Australia's top-selling car in 2015

A FACELIFT of the Toyota Corolla hatch will be shown at the 2015 Geneva motor show. Australia’s top-selling car for the last two years, fending off the Mazda 3 and a swathe of rivals including the Ford Focus, Holden Cruze and VW Golf, the current model arrived here October 2012.

While the majority of the Corolla – which is sold as the Auris in Europe – will remain the same, the front and rear-ends receive styling tweaks (not that you'd know it), while the cabin has also been freshened up to include "new comfort and safety equipment".

The current car was introduced in Europe ahead of the Mk7 VW Golf and was benchmarked on the Mk6 that was on sale at the time. The Mk7 Golf has moved the goalposts thanks to VW’s clever use of its modular MQB platform that has since underpinned cars are varied and talented as the Skoda Octavia and just-arrived-Down Under Audi TT.

Toyota Australia has confirmed that the Corolla hatch will be sourced from Japan, unlike the Corolla sedan that’s sourced from Thailand.

Mechanical changes will be limited, with Toyota confirming that line-up will continue its current offering of a 1.8-litre four-cylinder producing 103kW/173Nm with a choice for six-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission. Pricing is also expected to remain unchanged, with the Corolla currently kicking off at $19,990 for the Ascent hatch.

The updated Corolla will be on sale in Australia by the end of 2015.
