THE super-fast, supremely luxurious new Bentley Mulsanne Speed , unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, is billed as the fastest and most elegant office space in the world, with a top speed of 305km/h.
Private-jet makers might want to argue the toss, but it’s a rare car indeed that includes “the world’s royal families” in its customer targets.
Bentley already bears the royal warrants of our country’s Queen and her supposedly greenie oldest son, Charles.
Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer said the Mulsanne Speed uniquely embodies the brand’s commitment to luxury performance and is aimed at world leaders, royals and the very top managers, who like to work on the car’s integrated rear-seat laptops while they are launched from meeting to meeting at great speed.
The interior is as absurdly lush as you’d expect and each Speed is hand-built to customer order, a process that takes more than 400 hours.
Chauffeurs lucky enough to drive this Bentley will certainly wear a quiet smile as they enjoy a 6.75-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers 1100Nm of torque from just 1500rpm and 400kW, shoving this giant executive suite on wheels to 100km/h from rest in 4.9 seconds.
“The Bentley Mulsanne Speed is the fastest and most elegant office space on wheels; its performance and its 305km/h top speed are unmatched at this end of the market,” Durheimer said.
He went on to explain what a proud British brand it is, but that just sounded weird in his German accent.
If you’re a royal, or just a common billionaire, and you’re in a hurry, your new car has arrived.
