The ultimate speed king is back.

After being humiliatingly stripped of its title last week, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport has officially been reinstated as the world’s fastest production car.

It comes just weeks after the Guinness World Records declared the car invalid for the record, following an investigation that revealed Bugatti had disabled the Super Sport’s speed limiter for its record-setting run of 431.072km/h.

But the controversial decision has since been overturned, with a more thorough review by Guinness reinstating Bugatti’s 2010 record.

“The focus of the review was with respect to what may constitute a modification to a car’s standard specification,” said a Guinness statement.

“Having evaluated all the necessary information, Guinness World Records is now satisfied that a change to the speed limiter does not alter the fundamental design of the car or its engine.”

The decision means Bugatti now officially holds records for the world’s fastest production car and the world’s fastest convertible, having clocked a time of 408.84km/h in its Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse late last week.
