Jaguar claims the XKR-S GT, revealed at the New York Auto Show this week, is the fastest production car the company has ever built.

It is based on the XK Coupe, yet every performance aspect has been modified, says Jaguar.

More power, track suspension, aero bodykit and carbon ceramic brakes are all about making the XKR-S GT accelerate, brake and corner harder than any Jaguar before it.

"It is the fastest, most track-oriented car we have ever built," Jaguar marketing boss Stephen de Ploey told Wheels. "It'll do 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 300km/h. We believe it'll lap the Nurburgring in 7m 40s."

The XKR-S GT is based on the XK Coupe, and packs an uprated 5.0-litre supercharged V8 good for 405kW and 680Nm.
