In a move that will have petrol-head fathers singing from the rooftops, Renault has launched a wagon variant of its razor-sharp Megan RS.
A car designed to combine the performance of the razor-sharp Megan hot hatch with the practicality of a wagon, the new Megan GT 220 will hit Australian roads later this month priced at $36,990.
Essentially an ‘RS lite’ version of the Megan RS265, the GT 220 uses the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and six-speed manual transmission but produces 162kW/340Nm - or 33kW/20Nm less than the hatch.
It’s also 268mm longer than the Megan hatch (wheelbase has been extended by 67mm), 44mm narrower and 59mm higher. Weight has gone up by 89kg.
Rear luggage space sits at 486-litres with seats up, but 1600L with the seats down.
While not technically an RS model, the GT 220 does wear Renaultsport badges and boasts an RS-tuned chassis and steering.
