Is the NSU Ro80 the greatest saloon car ever built? There's a case for that. Even at the time, its greatness was recognised: it won the European Car of the Year Award at launch, with great packaging and aerodynamically brilliant design. Its Wankel engine was superb, a twin-rotor unit capable of spinning to extreme revs. If only NSU had sorted its rotor tips sealing problems, causing engine failures after as little as 15,000km, it might be looked on with greater fondness.
