Bizarre and brilliant, weird and wonderful, Fiat's Multipla was all that and more. Beyond the body-bulging; one rival design boss reckoned it looked like an obese bloke with a tight belt over his beer belly; the fact is, Fiat's radical solution to recreating the MPV worked brilliantly as a six-people-plus-luggage carrier. Housed within its four-metre length were two rows of three proper seats. Exceptional visibility meant children loved it. The surprise was in the driving. No other Fiat at the time (Barchetta sports car included) handled, steered or rode with the same authority.
