BMW X1 breaks cover

Details on BMW's X1 have been released, revealing a wide range of predominantly diesel engines, choice of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, and fuel saving tech.

BMW are claiming the best fuel economy in the segment with auto start-stop, brake regeneration and gear shift indicator for optimum fuel economy in manual models.

The X1 will be released in Europe with a six-cylinder petrol engine and three four-cylinder diesel engines. The most economical will be the sDrive18d RWD claiming 5.2L/100km and 136g/CO2.

Not forgetting its performance roots, the range claims sporting driving ability with composite material suspension with a sporty tune, performance brakes and tight steering. Safety is up there with front, side and curtain airbags with head bags for the front row, ABS/TC/DSC, adaptive brake lights, and five pre-tensioned seatbelts.

The cargo area expands from 420 litres to 1,350 litres with the rear seats down, and it measures in at 4.45 metres in length.

We can expect it here in the first quarter of 2010.
