According to The Times, Clarkson’s future with Top Gear is up the air over his comments in “a national newspaper” over the weekend.

The Times quotes from Clarkson’s article: “After last week’s Top Gear, the continuity announcer said the show would be back in the summer. Can I just say, here and now, it won’t be.”

The Times’ website says the BBC, which produces Top Gear, has contradicted Clarkson, saying that there’d be another series of the show, and regular presenters, Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond would front it.

A spokesman for the BBC told the Times site, “Top Gear will come back. A summer special is planned and Top Gear will return in the autumn.”

Apparently, Clarkson wasn’t available to comment.

Meanwhile, Top Gear fans have already been on The Times’ online blog, most of them horrified by the thought that the show mightn’t go into a new season and, if it did, Clarkson might not front it.

But not all of them are positive, with a couple of anti-Clarkson comments in the mix. One comment claimed Clarkson’s ego was “OTT” and the show’s focus should be more on the cars than the stars. Another said that losing Clarkson would “make a vast improvement to the show”.
