Holden Special Vehicles has revealed more than a new engine at its LS3 launch in Perth this morning.

The Holden performance arm has finally given a name to its wagon: the HSV Tourer, and it will go into production around the same time as the Holden Sportwagon in September for an October on-sale date.

Spec levels will mirror those of the Clubsport R8, with 317kW at 6000rpm and 550Nm at 4600rpm on tap.

HSV says the wagon will be as rigid as the sedan, with a slight weight gain and corresponding hike in fuel consumption.

Production of the 7.0-litre W427, first revealed to the public at this year’s Melbourne motor show, starts in July after the car has fulfilled its ADR requirements.

The car dubbed the new Walkinshaw is hand-built on the GTS platform at Clayton at a rate of six units per week, with around 70-80 units filling out this year’s quota. But the company has capped its production run at 200 units – despite receiving 1500 expressions of interest from would-be buyers.

The ballpark price has increased from a vague $125,000-plus to around $150,000-$170,000, and HSV says full details will be revealed closer to its August release.

HSV has also suggested that diesel and six-cylinder engines are not out of the picture for its future cars – though nothing will eventuate in the next 12 months.

According to HSV’s Managing Director Scott Grant, “anything is possible”.

Stay tuned for full details of the new 6.2-litre LS3 engine tomorrow.
